Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields website

Paul - If you send me your email address I will send you info about Lamps Airport near San Diego. I have a scan of the 1989 Los Angeles Sectional and a current satellite photo. The original runway is now a road through a nursery. The owner stilled lived on a hill overlooking the field/nursery in the late 1990's. As a student in 1980 my instructor did engine out procedures over this 2000' field. I sent you a private email.

It's a great site. Paul deserves a lot of thanks for maintaining it.

I looked up Atwood Airport. This amazing photo from approximately 100 years ago is just a single example of the riches you have brought to your site. It's easy to get lost in it for a long time.

I encourage anyone who hasn't perused the site to do so. :)

Thanks for the memories. I landed at Crazy Creek in a C-152 decades ago to visit my mom who lived at Hidden Valley (near Middletown), CA. Quite memorable. The glider port is long gone...

I am always happy to see your posts, Paul. And, as always, thanks for all of the work you do on your site.

I have had the nostalgic and sad memories of landing at two of these.

Flushing airport was in its last days in 1983, where I landed with hardly any other aircraft present, except for the helicopter service. I actually kept my plane there for a couple of weeks before finally arranging a permanent tie down at FRG. This had been the site of my final PP instruction and my check ride, so I was well aware how to stay clear of LaGuardia.

I also landed at Meigs within days of the Mayor destroying the center of the runway. It used to be my go-to destination for conferences around the corner from McCormick place. Hardly any planes around and no one to collect any landing or tie down fees, as had occurred in prior years. After the fact, I found out that the taxiway was left untouched to allow the last planes to escape.

Early on, I provided him with info about a few airports that I knew about that weren't on the list. They all ended up there, with additional info from Paul's own research.
