New TFR over the El Paso area for 10 days popped up last nuight that appears to halt ALL traffic. Very odd. I’m in DC today expecting to fly back, now wondering what happens.

WTAF?

I wonder what they're going to be using the El Paso airport for?

I wonder if Trump has decided to invade Mexico?

And medvac is halted. Sounds a bit extreme and also foolish, IOW it has Trump written all over it.

and I am sure that it is to also stop news helicopters from being up to see whatever false flag operation is being planned and executed.

The fact that Fort Bliss is adjacent to KELP is probably not a coincidence.

Whatever it is, it's likely supposed to make people forget about certain other things that have been in the news.

The strategy is called "distraction".

This is what you get with amateurs in charge.

For 10 days ?????

For 10 days ?????

Obviously I am not in a position to know. I am guessing they made it open ended because they didn't know how many drones the cartel would be attacking with or how long it would take to eliminated them.

Would you have rather had civilian aircraft in the line of fire?

It is comical that the mayor is demanding a "seat at the table" when decisions are made. Anyone with an ounce of common sense should be able to figure out that decisions like this have to be made quickly without the bureaucrats bogging it down. The military was in charge. It can not work any other way.

Based on multiple press reports, Fort Bliss was shooting at drones. It's not clear whether this was a test of an anti-drone system using target drones (what the Army says) or operational use knocking down drug-carrying Mexican cartel drones (what SecTrans said), but you don't want any airplanes in the area when that happens. The rest is confused and confusing, and no doubt Congress will investigate (for whatever that's worth). The one thing that does seem clear to me is that the Army and the FAA were not in lock-step about whatever was going on, and as we saw last year, that can get folks killed. Maybe the memory of that event led to an overreaction? :dunno:

The fact that no prior administration has ever needed to publish an emergency 10-day TFR speaks loudly. The fact that it was canceled after -- what? 12 hours ??? -- speaks louder. As does the fact that they didn't communicate with leaders who would normally be notified.

They could have just as easily set a 1-day TFR with a note that it would be extended if needed, with announcements scheduled each day at some specific time.

To me, this speaks of a panic reaction of some sort, with follow-through by people who don't really know what they're doing.

Not to mention there is no such thing as the US Department of War.

Now THAT would have looked like they don't know what they are doing.

Not really. It would have said "There's a situation here that we are dealing with."

You are living in denial. And you are also participating in a political discussion outside of the allowed forum. I would report you to, uh, I don't know who.

I'm reply to this quote in the article listed in the first post, above:

"The Department of War took action to disable the drones,” the official told CNN. "The FAA and DOW have determined there is no threat to commercial travel."

And you can always report my posts just like you can report anyone else's. I am not the only person who looks at reports. But since, in this case, my post simply stated a matter of fact, it would be a stretch to call it "participating in a political discussion."

Ok, but explain to me why you said there is no such thing as Dept of War? Was there a grammatical error I missed?

If an Administration wishes to rename one or more of the Executive Departments of the United States, it can ask Congress to do so.

No president of the US has the power to rename departments in any way other than signing a Bill from Congress making such a change.

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) is the proper name of the department. Consequently, it is a factual statement to state that there is no Department of War.

Speculation of course, but maybe the initial 10 day proposed duration was not just for our public consumption and concern, but also for the Cartels, if they sent the drones. Knowing that airspace closure could be for a long time might be enough to discourage the Cartels on using this location for the time being. Would not be surprised if they are/ will be probing somewhere else though.
