My ISP decided they didn’t want to be in the email business and basically moved email service to Yahoo

its been a nightmare since then and looking for recommendations on using a responsive email provider

It was a nightmare for me too moving personal stuff from my business email to my Gmail account. Luckily, I had all the time in the world to move it. But I suggest Gmail. Seems to work well

I am in same boat, probably same provider, tried conversion and did not work. Using Microsoft now outlook.com. works good and more than likely will be there for the long haul.

No gmail. Google tried to do something behind the scenes and allow more than one person to use a particular email address (think johndoe@gmail.com). It usually sorta works - except when it doesn't. I regularly receive email addressed to my address, but with different users around the world. So when the guy in NYC makes a reservation with Marriott, I get his reservation confirmation. Our names are different, our email addresses are the same.

I've been using Comcast (Xfiniity) cable service as an ISP for a number of years now. It's been generally reliable, with problems being promptly addressed and fixed. And SiteGround has been a very reliable web host for quite a few years. I use my domain name for my email address, and have it forwarded at the web host to my Comcast account. That way I can change either my ISP or web host (both of which I've done several times in the past) without having to change my email address.

Gmail is great. I don't think it is possible to create a duplicate account using the same email address using Gmail. If someone is receiving email with different names, it's most likely due to an entry error or for some reason, other people are using your email address to avoid using theirs.
