Why would ANYONE go there?
That is what I asked one of my best friends last summer, when he took his whole family, wife, college-graduate son, and college junior daughter. I think it was a short cruise, so they were somewhat insulated from the chaos. They are seasoned world travelers, but he didn't have a good reason. Basically, it's there. I thought it was idiotic.

Go look at the island of Hispaniola with Google Earth. Note which side is green and which side is brown. Guess which side of the island is Haiti and which is the DR.

You don't have to go to Haiti to have this kind of fun...

Our 172 has a bullet hole in the horizontal stabilizer and it's never been out of the country.

If you look at the photo, one can see it was taken at a slightly upward slant. This means the entry and exit holes are horizontally closely aligned. The bullet took a relatively flat trajectory. It wasn't shot from the ground when the plane was at altitude. I bet it was shot from the shoreline while the plane was scooping water.

Not much development around Kjostad Lake. Seems to me, a house to house chat, asking if anyone heard gunfire while a firefighting plane was scooping, might be useful. If not to catch the perp, but to prevent recurrence.

Found him.

He lives a mile from Kjostad Lake's shoreline.

He will appear in court this week charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, second degree assault, and felony criminal damage to property.

What? No attempted murder charge!
Please, throw the entire book at him.
