Just Flying Around

Wednesday the weather was good, so a pilot friend and I planned an out and back scenic flight with a little time to enjoy the summer weather on the other end. The two stage flight out (I flew to another airport to pick up my friend and one of his sons) was smooth and had only scattered clouds. This was good for finding and landing at an airport new to us. The wide, 3000+ foot, dirt runway which had recently been maintained (I've landed on asphalt that was rougher) made this easy. This location has the oddity of having two airports less than a 1/4 mile apart with runways in the same direction. One is open to the public the other is private. On this day they were busy. We enjoyed $100 hamburgers with milkshakes before using some of the trails in the national park surrounding this village. The return flight had some bumps as the day had heated up, but clouds were higher and the views were still great.

In this last pic, can you fly up the east L/C lake, round the mountain at the top, then fly back down the river? That would be a fun flight for a novice like me if so! Gorgeous!
 
Left early today to beat the heat. I flew alone which has not been often this summer, I like it much better.
Headed West to my cousin's farm to check on the crops, they look good for the most part. I decided to stop at the airport 12 miles South. Winds were calm and I was going to enter a left downwind for 3-1. 5 miles out I noticed a crop duster working South of the field so I switched to a 1-3 straight in.

The air tractor arrived 5 minutes later, landed on 3-1. Loaded up and took off on 1-3, total time on the ground 13 minutes. The pilot got out but never shut the engine down.

I got back about 8:30am and had visitors until I said I have to go about noon. I asked why they were around early this morning. I am always around on weekend mornings and it is usually a ghost town.

That photo is the east end of Clark Pass (close to Port Alsworth). On the east side of the group of mountains between the lake and river is a reporting point called the Fork (fork is of the valley not the river). Both sides (north/river, south) are used to fly through the pass. Making a circuit going around those is easy enough leaving from Port Alsworth; its a long ways from most places though.
 
Flew early this morning again. First back-to-back flying days since October.
6.7 more hours than this time last year.

With some luck (weekend weather) I might hit 40 hours for 2026.
 
Flew with my brother-in-law from Allegan, MI (35D) to Mackinac Island (KMCD) yesterday 7/28 and back today 7/29. Still compiling pics from both phones, but here are a couple. Mackinac Bridge on climb out.IMG_0415.JPG

Skies were clear and a million (CAVU) today, pretty sure we saw the Wisconsin coast from Michigan.........
