Shout out to Lightspeed customer service.

My current set of Lightspeed Zulu 3s are about 3.5 years old and I have worn them for about 600 or so hours of flying.

The ear cushions are very soft leather (or leather like, either way very soft). having worn glasses for almost every bit of those 600 hours the leather lining stuff has started to flake away where my glasses sit. This is probably why LS sells a refresher kit which includes two new ear cushions, a new top of the head cushion thingy and 2 new mic muffs for $50. I think their site is a little buggy especially when attempting to order from my phone.

Long story short my order never actually went through and my card wasn't charged. I call them a about a week later and the lady fixed my issue and took my card info. within a couple days I got a shipping notification. well.... I got two shipping notifications.

still thinking this must be a residual bug in their system and I really didn't worry about it since both notifications had the same delivery date. Turns out they sent me 2 refresher kits when I for sure only paid for one.

Not wanting any bad aviation karma I called them up this morning to offer to send them back, the same nice lady said no worries and that I was welcome to keep the goods.

Do Bose A20s have similar wear and tear issues?

EP,

I have had nothing but good things to say about Lightspeed as a company. I have 8x headsets of theirs and ZERO complaints as to the quality of the product and customer service regarding any issues. Glad your experience was a good one, always nice to know there are companies who know how to do customer service the right way!

By the way, unsure about Bose... I have only flown with them (great headsets), never owned a pair.

Cheers,

Viper

You can find refresher kits (ear pad, head pad, mike muffs) cheaper on eBay. Lightspeed enrolls you in their discount club (30% off) for 5 years when you buy a new headset directly from them.

Not surprising, the Lightspeed replacement cushions are about 20% cheaper at standard prices than their Bose counterparts, but again, you can save a ton on eBay for Bose replacements.

One hot & sweaty day I was at the airport and someone asked me what the black spots all over my face were from. Turns out it was my Bose X ear muffs that desperately needed to be replaced so yes Bose has similar issues. Used to be I could send them $150 bucks (might have been more) and they would completely refurb the headset including cables, wiring, and the earcup connector parts which I've heard can crack. You get new mic muffs and ear cup covers as well.
