More about that Qatari 747

I suspect the Qatari-jet's counter measures are not on par with the Air Force jet.
Installing counter measures would involve substantial structural modifications. There wasn't time to do that.
Frankly, if I was President Trump I'd only fly it within the states--if that. The drug cartels have ManPads. With the ease in which their drugs enter the USA, I suspect there's a ManPad or two floating around in the wrong hands. Not to mention drones.

At least he's taking USSS's advice. I remember another president who refused to do what they asked -- about 63 years ago, in Dallas. Didn't end well.

Apparently, this is a very touchy topic. I'm not sure why.

Journalists Subpoenaed as Trump Escalates Pressure on Media

This is why:
NYT said:
The Trump administration issued subpoenas on Friday to several journalists for The New York Times, after the news outlet reported this week on security concerns involving President Trump’s new Qatari-donated Air Force One.
If this is the actual reason for the subpoenas, I can understand it. I may not agree with it, but I can understand it. Broadcasting to the entire world the security shortfalls of the Qatari Air Force One is a no-no. It may be likened to revealing USSS security procedures, despite the fact, even I could figure out why the gift jet was not flown to Turkey.

I agreed with the decision to accept the gift plane, but I figured it would be used for domestic flights only.

I simply do not agree with you vis-a-vis the reporters. Stating that the plane has shortfalls is doing their job: keeping Americans and others aware of what the government is doing. There's nothing more important than that when it comes to the press.

If someone were given knowledge of the USSS security procedures on the condition that they never disclose them, that would most likely involve breaking one or more laws. But the press is different, and it is its job to keep up informed.

It's interesting that the president's trips can now mean that TWO 747s have to be flown everywhere he goes. Doesn't exactly sound economical. Why does the red one need to show up at all?

Please re-read my post. Pay particular attention to:

"President Trump abruptly switched aircraft when leaving Turkey this month after what officials judged to be a credible threat that Iranian proxy forces were targeting him and Air Force One, according to multiple people briefed on the matter."
Is there anything else he should have done?

Is there anything else he should have done?
Not taking that rather less survivable aircraft over the existing 747's to a higher threat environment in the first place? Personally, after 15 years of tactical jet flying and 12 years as a combat aircraft survivability analyst, I always want the most survivable aircraft available for the mission at hand regardless of the assessed threat level.

After all, the only time I ever got shot at was over the hills of Eastern Kentucky.
