What's new

My latest video...

Nice scenery! I have a similar tiedown mount I've used under both high and low wings and think it gives the best secure outside views you can get without a permanent mount.

here's one of mine. No talking just music and scenery. Shoulda put it on the other wing though.

Great flight. Talk about no where to land if the engine quits! Hope you bring survival gear with you on those type of flights.

The camera lies a little. It makes things closer than they really are in part due to the lack of man-made objects to provide perspective. We were higher than it looks and rarely in a position where we could not simply turn away toward lower terrain and an emergency landing site. SOP for mountain flights. My wife was in the back seat and one of the things I did was to point to the outs when something looked particularly boxed in. That's something I always did with passengers when flying in the Rockies.

Also in our favor was Canada's requirement for a VFR flight plan or itinerary. We had an itinerary with the flight school and this was a standard route for them which our instructor knew intimately. If we were overdue on this beautiful July day, we would probably be found very quickly.

Episode 5. Pretentious isn't it...Episode 5...LOL.

I've owned a Dynon D3 for a while now but have hardly used it because there's not a good place to mount it on my panel. The first part of the video details the mount and how I place it on the panel. Later in the Episode theres some video of the mount in flight. Also some general video from the GoPro mounted on the strut.

The D3 did come with a suction mount, but I really don't like that. I needed a way to be able to put the Dynon on the panel quickly, if needed, and directly in front of me. A friend had used his heat gun to bend some plexiglass into shape for a mount for his D2 in his 172 and my mount is a take on that.

This particular mount will do for now, but I'm still figuring a way to have it even more cleanly mounted.

FlyeLife Episode 5 ... Dynon D3 Mount

I wanted to add the D3 on my copilot side since a safety pilot may have a hard time viewing my Aspen across the panel. I keep mine plugged into a USB port and mounted it with the heavy Velcro used on EZ Pass units. It worked perfect, hasn't moved, and no complaints.

That's a pretty simple way to mount it. Do you have to re-adjust it every time you turn it on? It seems more sensitive than my AI. I thought about mounting it on the copilot side, but if I really do need it it's not in front of me. I'm working on my instrument too and I haven't thought about the safety pilot.
