The Cherokee B 180 came on the market at the end of 1962. It was the first lightplane to be equipped with a component that has become almost universal since then. Nearly all airplanes now are being built with at least one of these aboard.

What is that component?

This is going to have to be a good one. You've got me totally stumped - "the first lightplane to be equipped with a component that has become almost universal since then". I can't think of what that could possibly be. The first ELTs were developed in the late '60s - early '70s, so that was post 1962. Transponders weren't universal in light aircraft that far back. I'm looking forward to the answer on this one.
