Trump wants a completely new air traffic control system

Yep.

This is the goal. A2A (the airline lobbying group) has been pushing (sometimes quietly, sometimes not) for privatized ATC for many years. It will find a favorable environment in DC these days. Don't forget the many user fees, as in Europe.
This is what is in Europe. Not a great system. At least for GA!

The Freakonomics podcast has two episodes about a new ATC system, nos. 645 and 646. Lots is to explain ATC to nonpilots, but some is about whether to change the system and comparison to other countries’ approaches. Interesting, though certainly inaccurate when they say that most GA pilots who fly recreationally don’t use ATC services or controlled airports very much.

My cynical self can't help but wonder who the owners of that privately-held corporation might be . . .

And when they will "need" to start charging us.

I looked at that Wikipedia page before posting but didn't see any clues about who the owners are or into whose pockets the money will go. Did I miss something?

The Wiki page says exactly who owns Peraton--Veritas Capital Fund Management, a private equity firm.

You will see Veritas was already heavily involved in military aerospace and IT integration. Peraton is simply Harris Corp rebranded as Peraton.

How long before Chinese or Russian hackers (or Abdul bin Terrorist or the latest incarnation of the Red Army Faction aka Baader-Meinhof) figure out how to hack a cloud-based system?

Does $20B sound inflated to anyone else.
A billion just isn't as much as it once was.
I suppose in just the last four years a billion went from being worth a billion to being worth only $900M.
